Mahmoud
Al-Bayaty is amoung Iraq's
leading contemporary writers. He
trained and worked as journalist in
Iraq but had to leave the country for
political reasons in 1974 . He settled
in the Czech repoblic ( or
Czechoslovakia as it was known ).
After the velvet revolution , it
became increasingly difficult for
foreigners to remain in that country
and Mahmoud had to move along with his
family in 1991 to Sweden , where he
currently resides.
